Anxiety is something that is commonly seen in children. The question that usually pops up in people’s minds is whether or not this disorder affects academic performance. Well, it does. Sometimes to an extent, you cannot even imagine. It happens even when your child is good at studies. If his constant fear of being judged gets his mind caught up then there are little chances of him succeeding in various areas of life. It is important to note that it is not always identifiable. Understanding your own child’s insecurities and state of mind will be a difficult task for you. Most of the times parents get aware of the situation when the child hits the bottom level.
Do you often notice how a child screams and throws his copy around when he fails to understand that particular math problem? We often think it is normal for a child to get tensed while dealing with tough sums, right? But it’s not true as you need to sense the anxiety lying under this behavior. It is not normal to throw things around, scream, and cry every time something little happens. What can be done when this behavior is noticed?
Firstly, always remember that anger can never solve this issue. Try to talk to the child and replace his negative thoughts with some positive ones. Try to understand what exactly is killing him from inside. If he refuses to open up then never force it. The next thing you must do is call his parents and have a conversation about the situation. Try to explain it in as much detail as possible. Just remember that taking a step towards the issue is essential no matter how small you think it is.
If the child finds himself alone all the time due to your busy schedule then this might turn out as a big problem. Sometimes the child gets so used to being alone that being around people suffocates him. All that he wants is to lock himself behind closed doors rather than having fun with people. If there is a particular incident that happened which scarred him deeply like divorce then you need to find a way to help him get over what happened. It can be tough but it is necessary for a healthy life ahead. Most of the people experience a troubled life due to childhood traumas. What can be done?
You need to find ways out to help him get over the situation or at least accept it. Most of the time people think about what could have happened that they never accept what actually happened. It is essential to take time out for your child and make him realize how much fun it is to initiate a conversation, go out, and have fun. Reserve a particular day of the week especially for your child where the entire family enjoys. He must know what it is like to get out of his head and not think or worry about people.
These were some of the steps that can be taken by the parents and the teachers to help the child deal with anxiety having a tough grip around his head.
