California Home Schooling Laws

Homeschooling, also called compulsory or private education, is the schooling of school-age children in homes or other locations other than the school. These schools may be operated by individuals, public agencies, or corporations. Commonly, homeschooled children are those that were home schooled for one or more years. There are some parents who choose to home school their children, while others do not wish to educate their children in the same manner as public or private schools.

Homeschooled students are able to receive the same academic instruction and resources that they would have received if they had attended a traditional, mainstream high school or university. However, they receive guidance from teachers who are well trained in the subjects that the home schooled students want to learn. As long as these teachers know the subjects that the home schooled students want to study, then they can provide the academic preparation they need. Some of the resources that may be provided by these teachers include academic books, home study courses, testing material, and various types of reference materials. The curriculum offered by the home schooled students is often similar to that of the regular high school or college.

The most effective means of providing home schooling instruction is through individualized home instruction. This means that the teacher gives specific instructions to the child based on the child’s personal needs and interests. In most cases, a student may not be interested in a particular subject matter when he receives educational guidance. Through individualized home instruction, the teacher can assess the student’s interest and determine which lessons should be covered. As long as the child has adequate knowledge about the subject matter, then he will be able to retain the information learned during the lessons.

A large number of parents are choosing to home school their children through the Internet. There are various types of online teaching systems that offer several features. One of these features is quarterly reports that outline how each of the lessons was received by the child. Parents can also receive general instructions that pertain to the overall progress of the child through home-based quarterly reports.

The skills and knowledge necessary for providing individualized home instruction can be acquired through online training. There are numerous training providers that provide this type of instruction. One of the easiest ways to get started in providing individualized home instruction is through the use of CDs. Parents can purchase CDs containing lessons that relate to the subject matter of their child’s academic studies. These CDs may be used to supplement the weekly classroom sessions, or they may serve as a stand-alone unit that parents can play at home to teach their children.

Home schooling families can save money when compared to the costs of attending public schools. The state of California recently began requiring that students receive at least a diploma from age sixteen. This mandate, however, has been challenged in court. There have also been recent cases in which parents have been removed from the classroom because they have signed up their children for home schooling. If you are considering home schooling your children, it is important to check local regulations and laws before making any decision.
